PriceSmart foods

Have you been to this supermarket?
Have you ever heard its name before?

The reason why I mention it here is that I went there this morning to get some bananas. The most interesting thing that attracts me so much is its “Self Checkout”. Yes! Check it out on your own. Weigh vegetables, scan bar codes of the items you chose. Then pay it by various payment methods. Do every step by yourself.

I like to play that machine...haahaa

Also, it seems that the prices marked are little bit lower than other supermarkets. I got about 3.3 kg bananas for only $2.72 (i.e. $0.37 per lb) and this is its regular price.

I think this supermarket might belong to Save On Foods as I earned some save-on-more points from the items I got.

There is one in Surrey and another is in Richmond. The latter one is not exactly in Richmond but actually in New Westminster.

Go to the following website and take a look:

It's about time to introduce self serve checkout counters. By hiring fewer cashiers, the supermarket can pass the savings onto the consumers. I guess that's why the prices are lower.

BTW, I went to AM1470's songquest contest many years ago when I was in university. One of my undergrad B-School classmates got into the final 10. He mentioned the committee seemed to prefer the more "commercialized" songs -- the catchy tunes, the familiar words and rhythm...
